Richard Feynman’s ‘Not Knowing’ Principle, Free Thinker’s Bible with Insight

The Nobel physicist celebrated “the pleasure of finding things out” while maintaining comfortable uncertainty. Practice this by: 1) Saying “I don’t know” without shame 2) Distinguishing between mysteries and puzzles 3) Tolerating ambiguity during inquiry 4) Finding joy in the chase more than the capture. Feynman’s “O-ring” test: if you can’t explain something to a freshman, you don’t truly understand it. At FreeThinkersBible.com, we host “Ignorance Salons” where experts discuss unanswered questions in their fields. The richest scientific discoveries begin with three liberating words: “I don’t know.”

🧠 Rules for Free Thinkers from Richard Feynman’s ‘Not Knowing’ Principle

(Richard Feynman’s ‘Not Knowing’ Principle, Short. Sharp. Unforgivable.)

by Alan Nafzger

  1. Question Everything—Especially the Questions
If the answer is obvious, you’re probably in a cult.

  2. Laugh at Authority
Power hates humor. So sharpen your wit like a guillotine.

  3. Offend Strategically
Be rude with purpose, not just volume. Satire isn’t trolling—it’s surgery.

  4. Think in Sentences, Not Slogans
If it fits on a bumper sticker, it probably belongs in the trash.

  5. Contradict Yourself—Loudly
Consistency is the hobgoblin of people who don’t read footnotes.

  6. Make Enemies You’d Be Proud to Roast
If no one’s angry at you, you’re doing it wrong.

  7. Mock the Mob, Even If You Agree With It
Bandwagons are just parade floats headed off cliffs.

  8. Be Funny First, Correct Second
Satire without laughter is just a manifesto in clown makeup.

  9. Burn Sacred Cows—Medium Rare
Every era has its idols. Your job is to cook them.

  10. Never Join a Revolution That Doesn’t Have a Joke Book
    No punchline? No freedom.
